When I was 16 I stood up in front of a crowded Chinese wok restaurant-cum-karaoke bar and tried to sing ‘Surfin’ USA’.
The moment I opened my mouth to deliver the line ‘If everybody had an ocean…’ I realised I was effectively tone deaf. As public fails go, it was epic.
‘Don’t Worry Baby’ is my favourite Beach Boys song.
Look at them here in 1964: so awkward they can’t even stand up straight, but oh boy those harmonies. Goosebumps.
